The CNR-Institute on Atmospheric Pollution (CNR-IIA) will participate in the third meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP3) of the Minamata International Convention on Mercury which will take place in Geneva, Switzerland from 25 to 29 of November 2019.

CNR-IIA will participate in the Conference as part of the official Italian delegation, coordinated by the Ministry of the Environment and Protection of the Territory and the Sea and will take part in its exhibition session, addressed to all participating countries at the international level, and to the numerous side events and knowledge Labs organized in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Program to inform the international delegates about the news regarding the study of mercury pollution.

The topics that will be examined in COP3 will include the following topics:

  • The evaluation of the effectiveness of the Minamata Convention in implementing the prescriptive measures envisaged therein, agreed on an international scale
  • The revision of the lists of mercury-containing products and processes that use mercury, to be subjected to restrictions
  • The definition of Thresholds for the mercury content in waste.
