Abstract of the project

DivAirCity is a project that aims to shift the urban paradigm by enhancing human diversity (with a focus on gender and multiculturalism) as a resource to define new urban services and models towards green cities driven by culture. The project focuses on the urban nexus that combines people, places, peace, economic growth, climate solidity and its impact on air quality and decarbonisation. DivAirCity, through citizen science and creativity, will co-design solutions and track their impact transparently and securely.

The project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 under grant Agreement N. 101003799.

The project involves 5 EU cities representing replicable case studies: Orvieto (IT), Castellon (SP), Potsdam (D), Aarhus (DK) and Bucharest (RO). DivAirCity aims to create different solutions: 5 Permanent Living Labs (PLL), 1 Diversity and Inclusion green city index (DIGCI), 5 Smart Cities Climate contract (SCCo), 1 Community of Practice (CoP), 5 pollution mitigation services atmospheric and 1 EU protocol for the diagnosis of decarbonisation. PLLs will implement nature based solutions (NBS) by exploiting over 55 million of budgets already allocated by cities; the DIGCI aims to evaluate diversity and decarbonisation strategies; the SCCos will be provided by co-designing new business models supported by blockchain technologies; the CoP will include the entire urban ecosystem.

DivAirCity presents a project beyond the borders of the EU with an ambitious strategy of international diffusion outside Europe through the involvement of the CRAs of the Belmont Forum, the main international networks and projects funded by H2020. The consortium represents a mix of stakeholders selected from the usual research-focused organizations to provide a true path to the market, with the ambition of bringing the project results to market by the end of the project. DivAirCity's visibility will be enhanced by the participation of Belgian National TV (RTBF) and its associated European and global channels.
Demonstrate diversity and social inclusion as an asset for green innovation; create 5 urban living laboratories; define a new blockchain platform with a new business model; mitigate air pollution and promote climate neutrality.
