Abstract of the project

La organic fraction of municipal solid waste (FORSU) it is made up of wet waste collected with separate waste collection (RD) and urban greenery. It is a biomass that can be used for the production of biogas through anaerobic digestion. Its composition, in terms of carbon / nitrogen ratio and biomethanation potential, allows it to be treated inside anaerobic digesters even without the addition of other substrates.

The project is aimed at the construction of a plant for the treatment of OFMSW through an innovative technology, to significantly incentivize the reduction of landfill disposal of the aforementioned portion of waste e create a management system focused on a more rational use of resources with a consequent reduction of the environmental impact.

The project aims to propose a methodologically flexible and economically sustainable solution for the treatment and disposal of OFMSW that is technically and financially feasible even for small quantities of collected biomass, perhaps with peaks due to seasonality.

The general objectives of the project can be defined as follows:

  • The creation of a waste management system focused on the concept of the circular economy
  • Improvement of the treatment and disposal cycle of the OFMSW
  • Reduction of the undifferentiated fraction of municipal solid waste
  • Maximization of the social impact on the Calabrian territory including the creation of jobs
