Abstract of the project
The smaller islands suffer a strong impact from climate change. Due to their insularity and small size, small islands present specific barriers to the energy transition that can only be overcome through specific solutions. Renewable energy communities (CER), as introduced by the 2001 Directive 2018, can in this sense be an important tool that can produce a significant impact on the smaller islands.
The partnership, made up of organizations expert in the energy transition and bodies that have been working with and for the smaller islands of the Mediterranean basin for years, involves three pilot islands in Greece, Italy and Croatia in the design of a model applicable to small islands, to support the authorities local authorities to cooperate with citizen-led initiatives.
The CNR-IIA will also be responsible as leader of the networking activities with the European islands for the transfer of the project results
