During Ecomondo, the green economy fair in Rimini, the 'Study of greenhouse gas emissions and nitrogen dioxide into the atmosphere from the transport sector powered by diesel, methane and liquefied biomethane' was presented, carried out by Institute on Atmospheric Pollution of the National Research Council (CNR-IIA), promoted by the Italian biogas consortium (Cib) and Iveco.

The study, which takes the Italian market as its reference context, among the first in Europe for the number of vehicles powered by methane and for the presence of CNG (Compressed natural gas) and Lng (Liquefied natural gas) refueling stations, analyzes 11 different scenarios, differentiated by raw material for the production of biogas and by the presence or absence of CO2 capture during the upgrading process.

The Cnr-IIA results show that liquefied biomethane (bioLNG) can play a very important strategic role in the decarbonization process of transport, in particular the heavy one, and in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, up to 121,6% compared to 'use of diesel and a 65% decrease in nitrogen dioxide.
