Air pollution and its overt effect on public health have long been included in political agendas and strategies at European level. As you know, the European Commission has opened three infringement procedures against Italy for the violation of the obligations established by the aforementioned directive (continuous exceedances of the levels of PM10 and NO2 and PM2.5), two of which have already been sentenced by the European Court of Justice for a sum to be paid which is estimated to exceed 2 billion euros in total. In these conditions, from today and for the next few years, action for clean air will require all possible support and a more incisive involvement of all public and private actors in the area, including greater assumption of responsibility by of civil society in general.
