Features of the mobile laboratory:

The mobile laboratory for monitoring air quality has been suitably set up to be equipped with the necessary instrumentation for the high temporal resolution measurement of pollutants in the particle phase dispersed into the atmosphere.

In detail, it houses the following scientific instrumentation:

  • Xact 625i (Cooper Environmental Services LLC, Beaverton, OR, USA), automatic analyzer used for monitoring the metals present in the PM10 and capable of providing concentration data with high temporal resolution, from a minimum of 15 to a maximum of 240 minutes;
  • Sunset Laboratory Model-4 Semi-Continuous OC / EC Field Analyzer (Sunset Laboratory Inc., Tigard, OR, USA), semi-automatic analyzer for the measurement with high temporal resolution (up to 30 minutes) of organic carbon concentrations (OC ) and elementary (EC) in the PM5;
  • Aerosol Chemical Speciation Monitor (ACSM) (Aerodyne Research Inc., Billerica, MA, USA), an automatic tool that allows to perform, with a high temporal resolution (up to 1 minute), the chemical characterization and to determine the concentration of organic species and inorganic non-refractory nature present in PM5;
  • PBL Mixing Monitor (FAI Instruments SrL, Rome, Italy), an automatic analyzer that measures, on an hourly basis, the natural radioactivity and allows to estimate the degree of mixing of the lower layers of the atmosphere;
  • SWAM 5a Dual Channel Monitor (FAI Instruments SrL, Rome, Italy), an instrument that automatically provides the measurement of the mass concentration of the airborne particulate matter (PM10 and / or PM5) and also allows the sampling of the powders on two independent lines, each of which can be equipped with filtering membranes of different nature to be used for subsequent chemical laboratory analyzes.
